Kohlrabi Gojju/ Kohlrabi curry

Kohlrabi is grown in green houses in Switzerland outside of the season. I Like it so much because it can be easily moulded into a wide variety of dishes. Plus it has amazing health benefits to offer. High in antioxidants and Vitamin C and many more makes it a demanding winter dish for me.

Kohlrabi Gojju is a traditional dish from my home and this special recipe is from my mother who inherited from grand mom. Very easy to make using the basic ingredients which are available in most of our Kitchens.

Ingredients

1 medium sized Kohlrabi (washed and cut in small cubes)

1 onion (finely chopped)

1 tsp tamarind paste

1 tsp 1 tsp chana dal or bengal gram dal

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

A pinch of Asafoetida

Salt to taste

Lemon sized jaggery

1 tbsp oil

5-6 curry leaves(optional)

1tbsp green coriander

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp sambar powder (I make this at home or use MTR sambar powder)

Recipe

👩‍🍳Heat the oil in a frying pan. As soon as the oil gets heated add asafoetida ,mustard seeds and chana dal.

👩‍🍳Allow mustard seeds to splutter and chana dal to get golden brown.

👩‍🍳Add the chopped onion

👩‍🍳Once you see onion turning soft and brown add the kohlrabi

👩‍🍳Stir for some time and cook closed for just 5 minutes.

👩‍🍳As soon as the kohlrabi turns soft add curry leaves, turmeric powder , jaggery and mix well

👩‍🍳Add the sambar powder, tamarind with some salt .
