Plain Akki Roti

Rice is a staple grain in #southindia specially in #malenadu . To my surprise there can be numerous varieties of dishes that can come up with it rice.⁠

This is often served with #eggplant raita, eggplant #sidedish or palya, chutney powder, coconut chutney.


I love it the way my mother prepares it. Mom is visiting me so I want to grab the moment and learn this special dish from her. The taste of this #roti comes by the way it is prepared with hand. I must say it is a lot of effort to make it to this taste.

Boil water with salt. When it starts boiling, reduce the heat and add 1 1/2 cup rice flour. Stir it well until a thick dough gets formed. Ensure there are no lumps. Let this mixture cool down for 10 minutes. Once cooled down , knead well & make a dough. Make a lemon size ball from the dough , sprinkle some oil on a banana leaf or thick plastic sheet and make the roti with hand. Now put this on an iron pan and cook it well.⁠
